Este o planta cu frunze lungi, ascutite si flori roz, care se intinde ca un covor vegetal. Frunzele sunt late de circa 2,5 cm si lungi de 7-13 cm. Tulpina si partea de deasupra a frunzelor sunt de culoare purpurie si pe masura ce foliajul se maturizeaza e acoperit de o nuanta metalica de turquise. Partea interioara a frunzei are o culoare violet-aprins care trece spre roz inspre tulpina. Florile sunt roz, au trei petale si circa 2 cm diametru. Planta infloreste constant in perioadele calde, dar florle sunt deschise numai dimineata. Desi prefera pamantul umed, planta rezista si pe un teren secetos si nu se usuca daca nu este udata o perioada mai lunga de timp. Aceasta specie este toleranta la inghet, dar pe perioadele friguroase de iarna rezista mai bine sub un strat gros de zapada. De obicei inmugureste iar primavara.
