Catalpa (Catalpa) este un gen de arbori floriferi din familia Bignoniaceae, originare din America Centrala si de Nord si estul Asiei. Este specific zonelor calde din climatul subtropical si temperat. Sunt arbori foiosi, de talia III-II. Cresc pana la 12-18 m inaltime, cu diametrul coroanei de 6-12 m. Au o crestere foarte rapida. Frunzele sunt verzi si au forma cordata. Unele specii au frunze trilobate. Inflorirea are loc vara. Florile cresc in panicule si au culoare alb-galbuie. Fructele se dezvolta la sfarsitul verii, inceputul toamnei. Sunt silicve pendente, lungi de 20-40 cm. Poarta seminte mici, aripate. Se planteaza ca arbore ornamental in parcuri si gradini
